In March 2023, a serious crash involving a golf cart occurred in Lighthouse Point, Florida, resulting in significant injuries to a young passenger. The incident highlights the dangers of improperly allowing minors to operate motor vehicles and the legal consequences that can follow.
At the time of the crash, a 14-year-old minor was driving the cart and riding along were two other minor passengers: one seated in the front, and our client who was seat-belted and in the rear seat.
The driver, who did not have a valid driver’s license, was traveling too fast and failed to slow down when approaching a turn. In an attempt to overcorrect, the driver lost control of the golf cart, causing it to overturn and crash into a cement pole.
Our client suffered serious injuries in the crash, including bodily harm, permanent impairment, disfigurement, and ongoing pain and suffering. The injuries have also led to significant medical expenses, and it is expected our client will require further medical treatment in the future.
We were able to secure settlements from both the owners of the golf cart as well as the (non-owner) driver of the golf cart.
