Our law firm represented a minor child who slipped and fell at a bowling alley while attending a cousin's birthday party. There was concern over her left knee. She had arthroscopic surgery on her left knee to see if there was any structural damage and, fortunately, there wasn't anything significant. The procedure did leave her with two small pinhole scars, though. The bowling alley defending the case on all fronts.
On the issue of damages, the defense hired a board-certified orthopedic surgeon to basically say the child was not hurt at all and, to whatever extent she commented during her compulsory medical examination (CME) that she experienced some issues with it, it was "interesting." We exposed that defense expert for basically calling the child a liar. There was never a serious settlement offer. The best offer was in the low thousands. At trial, the jury returned a verdict in the amount of $2.1 Million.
